Should You Tip Your Landscaper?

When it comes to landscaping, there are a few things to consider when deciding whether or not to tip your workers. Generally, it is not expected to tip business owners or big companies that can ban tips. However, spot projects and irregular care or maintenance are the types of landscaping jobs that deserve tips. If you have a regular landscaper who does a great job, giving him a little extra money at the end of the season is a good way to show your appreciation.

It's important to consider the size of your property when deciding whether to tip a single landscaper or hire a team. If you have landscapes on your property on a daily or weekly basis, it's not mandatory to tip them every time they come. Similarly, if you hire a company to take care of the landscape of a large property, there's no need to tip staff every time. When a single landscaper or team of professionals can make acres of land lush, vibrant, balanced and even, they definitely deserve additional money on top of what they're charging.

If you have a sizeable lawn, or a yard that requires constant maintenance, then you know that it's often difficult to find a good landscaper. Don't feel guilty, it's not your fault that you have a Joe Schmoe next door who hasn't done anything in his house since the day he received it, now he can't bear to see you enjoy your house and your landscape. However, there's no denying that landscaping a large yard takes longer than landscaping the typical suburban yard, and this should be considered if you're going to tip your landscapers. And second, landscape labor costs are high anyway. There is no doubt that they are adequately paid for their efforts.

But if you feel like rewarding them for their hard work and dedication, then tipping them is an excellent way to show your appreciation. The firm's owner typically performs very large, high-end projects for landscape architects and designers. Also, even if tipping landscapers isn't common practice, you shouldn't be discouraged from showing appreciation. If your landscapers refuse your tip, however, accept this and refrain from being aggressive. This can negatively affect your work and can cause garden equipment to pay more attention to payments.
